How to Start Living an Extraordinary Life
Do you feel stuck and don’t know why? Understanding the “reason” behind the why will enable you to get on the right path and keep you from driving into the ditch. Life will pay you what you ask for from it. If you ask for success in life, follow the plan and take the necessary actions, you will get it. Simple — not easy.
Be An Overcomer
Rejection and fear of failure are the most common obstacles that keep people from achieving their human potential. If these obstacles are preventing you from turning your dreams into realities, practice the art of handling rejection. An excellent resource for overcoming rejection is the book “Rejection proof” written by Jia Jiang. In this book, Jia takes a journey of 100 days of rejections to overcome his fear of rejection. The story is very entertaining and full of insight on overcoming the fear of rejection. Another great book for dealing with the answer no is “Go for the No “ written by Richard Fenton, Andrea Waltz. This book about sales has a universal message on how to tackle the fear of hearing no. Read these books to begin your journey to being an overcomer. Success is found on the other side of fear.
Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Everything in nature is designed to grow, even you. Sometimes we settle into a habit of comfort in our lives. We use our free time to sit in our jammies binging on Netflix. The problem with staying in your comfort zone is it doesn’t get you any closer to your goals in life. I am all for a relaxing day off, but growth is uncomfortable. Most people abandon their goals in the first ninety days. Over 92% of people do not complete their goals. The reason — they did not get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Live with Purpose
Life is like a lump of clay. We can shape and mold it, or we can allow it to shape and mold us. Like water over a rock, we change due to external forces in our lives. How we change is up to us. Life will give you whatever you ask for from it. Choose to live a purposeful life. Examine what is working for you and what isn’t in your life. Becoming intentional is the key to designing a purposeful life. Be a change agent and create the life you desire. When you realize you own your power, your potential is limitless.
Blaze Your Trail
How do you define success? Often in life people measure their success by what others have done. Do you look at your life and think, I will have made it when I have the things______ has? There will always be people who have more money, talent, friends, and ideas. There will always be people who have less than you. Don’t waste time defining your success by measuring others. Blaze your trail and keep your focus straight ahead. Don’t look behind, sideways, or anywhere else. When you begin trailblazing your path you will find personal freedom and success.
See the Forest and the Trees
Don’t focus so much on the destination you forget to enjoy the journey. Take joy from your life every day. Some of the happiest people have very little in the way of material things. The experiences we have in life are more significant than material things. Getting new stuff is great, but the novelty wears off over time, stuff is just stuff. Invest in relationships as your primary source of joy. The life you lived will be defined by the impact you had, not the stuff you left behind.
Scarcity vs. Abundance
It’s all about perspective. A humble abode of 300 square feet in a garage looks pretty good if you live outside. A person in poor health would love a day where they felt good enough to exercise. The way you view life is from your perspective. You get to choose what you are grateful for in life. An attitude of gratitude is a beautiful thing. Being grateful nurtures the soul and resets the scarcity meter. An attitude of gratitude pulls people out of the pity trap. We all have days where life takes a dump on us. If you focus on the things you are grateful for, these days become a small bump in the road of life. Becoming grateful will attract abundance in your life. What you focus on- you find.
Work Smart, Not Hard
If you want to do anything, there are abundant resources to learn how to do it. Don’t spend time trying to recreate the wheel. Find a mentor who has done what you are trying to do. Learn as much as you can from books, webinars, blogs, conferences, classrooms, virtual learning, and groups to design your plan for success. Find your tribe of mentors to help you on the journey. Be your authentic self to make it your own. A great resource to learn more; Tribe of Mentors written by Tim Ferris.
Strategy Without Execution
Some people spend countless hours on educating themselves. They spend limitless amounts of money on personal and professional development. I call them “information seekers.” They are continually searching for the magic bullet that will change their lives. News flash- there is no magic bullet. Information seekers often quote information, but never seem to reach their goals. This information seeker path is external, without internal change. Strategy without execution is just strategy. Develop your plan for success, take action and review your progress along the way to stay on the path and start living the life of your dreams.
P.S. Don’t forget to enjoy the journey along the way.
