How to be a Great Communicator, and a Better Sales Professional

In a world where relationships are the bricks ,mortar, foundation and possibly the only thing separating you from your competition, wouldn’t it be nice to know how to be a better overall communicator?

The following are tips to be a better husband, wife, daughter, son, friend, co-worker and sales professional.

  1. Learn What They Care about , Then Let them Talk about It.

There is no greater compliment than knowing someone is actually interested and engaged in what you care about. Practice active listening and watch others gravitate towards you.

2. Show how you Feel

Why are the most popular posts on social media those that have an aspect of our personal lives? The answer is we want to have a personal connection. It is far more interesting to our human nature to hear a good story, than to look at information.

3. Find a Common Thread

People do business with people they “know, like and trust.” When you have common interests, it creates a sense of community, and endearment towards you. “ they are like me, therefore they must be o.k., right?”.

4. Keep an Open Mind

Just because others don’t have your world view, does not make them bad. People that are judgmental towards others often alienate those they are close to. Try to see life from other views. If we were all the same, how boring would that be?

5. Make Them Feel Comfortable

If you are non-judgmental, engaged, interested in learning, and show empathy , how could you not be someone everyone wants to be around?

6. Share Something that Has Happened to You Recently

We all love a good story. Another aspect of sharing a good story is it lets the other person know you are comfortable letting your guard down. They will most likely do the same.

7.Ask Questions that Expand the Conversation

Asking questions shows you are engaged, actively listening and show an interest in knowing this person better, is there really a finer gesture as a compliment than this?
